I use Listerine mixed 1 part Listerine to 3 parts water. Then I take a toothbrush and I clean the mouth out really good with it. It almost always takes two people for this. Use a round ball point pen to hold the snakes mouth open. Then just brush all the canker out of the mouth. wait a couple days and check it again. Just keep doing this till the mouth rot is no longer present. Note they aren't real happy with this so be prepared for their reaction. I've never found anything better. even in sever cases this works great. Just make sure to clean the mouth really well. remove all bad tissiue and if it bleeds it is a good thing. Do worry about a little blood. The Listerine will stop it. I use the orange flavor kind on mine. lol..

This is one of the best home remedies that I have posted. Saves you a lot of money over a vet trip.

god yes! vets bills her for reps are quite high! and its also hard to fidn a very good rep vet in most of the UK. We had one but he went back home to Australia Sad
If you know what your doing its far cheaper and probably less stressful for your rep to treat it at home

Listerine can also be used to get a snake to let loose if you get bitten. BHB/Snakebytes apperenty uses this and says it always work.

Adamski yes i too saw that on Brians page, but since ive had snakes have always kept a bottle of listerine nearby incase of a bite. Kings are ones that will bite at any opportunity so if you got kings keep a small bottle or spray near your tanks!

They produce more musk than Burms and stuff do. They use their musk as defense. Where most Burms use theirs for othere things. Although they will all musk you Colubrids are much more prone to doing so.

well i didnt realise that corns musked! never know it to happen its just once they have left "presents" the whole tank and room ( or bath) stinks. Dont think ive ever read that in a book! But it makes sense for the smell as its putrid! ( sorry for spelling if its wrong)

I can't spell either don't feel bad. lol That's just my observation of it growing up around them. All sankes will musk you. But the larger snakes just seem to not need it as much . Where the smaller ones are getting jumped on buy all sorts of animals. The wild Colubrids seem to be much stronger scented than captive born ones. It's more of a skunky smell from wild ones. Which makes me think that it is more for defense and for leaving pherimones that will last longer. In the more arid climates. The smell doesn't last as long . So it may be that a lone that makes it that way.
